Have you ever practiced something over and over again, only to switch reeds and have no issues at all? I know I have, which is why I test my reeds over multiple days, increasing the demands on each reed as it gets slightly more broken in. This process of the soaking and drying out helps reeds stabilize so you won't have to worry about that great reed changing overnight. If I can't play a beautiful phrase in the tenor register and then immediately play quietly in the low register, that reed is in the trash! I wouldn't play on it, so I don't want you to either.
