Teaching is a very important part of my work and probably the most fulfilling thing that I do as a musician! I enjoy seeing students grow and helping them overcome obstacles that were once considered too challenging. Whether you are a beginner who has never held a bassoon before or someone preparing for an audition, I'm here to help!

I maintain a nationwide online teaching studio in addition to in-person lessons. My high school aged students are regularly accepted into all-state honor bands, collegiate music programs, and competitive summer festivals, but beyond that I have built long lasting relationships with my students. I think the student/teacher relationship is incredibly important and one that I appreciated while growing up so I strive to build meaningful relationships with them and get to know them beyond the instrument.

Reed Making
Reeds, reeds, reeds! The best and worst thing about playing the bassoon is having control over your own reeds. There are so many different things that go into a good reed that it can feel overwhelming when you start adjusting and making your own! Let me help clarify things and answer all of your questions. Whether you are a beginner or a budding professional, there are countless mistakes one can come across when making reeds so let me use my years of experience to help you learn quicker and with fewer mistakes.

I teach reed making utilizing a formulated training plan that begins with wire adjustments, quickly moves on to scraping reeds, and then ends with reed blank construction. This can be taught weekly or as a multi day intensive, whichever fits your schedule best. Whatever you decide, I recommend having regular check ins while you're starting out to ensure that no bad habits form!
Chamber Coaching
As a passionate chamber musician, I understand the demands of performing in a small ensemble are unique and often times go beyond how you play your instrument. Chamber ensembles require an incredible amount of nonverbal communication and connection in order to perform your best, but how does a group build that? That's where I come in! Beyond playing well, I believe that how we work together dictates a lot of our success as a team.

There are many things that go into becoming a great musician, but at the core of it all is practicing. The quality of our practicing directly determines the quality and speed of learning a new piece or skill. Have you ever practiced a hard excerpt of music, got it to sound how you want it, only for it to go back to square one the next day? That is something I experienced regularly while I was in school and so it forced me to analyze why that was happening. What evolved from that was a focus on the fundamentals and process of how I practice and learn new things. Let me help you accelerate your progress on your instrument!

Designed to work in addition to your private lessons, I won't specifically assign you music to work on, but instead I will help you create long standing practice habits that will carry over to anything you play and even to learning new skills outside of music.
Interactive Performances
Rooted in the idea that music is for everyone, an interactive performance is one of the most creative and engaging performances you can attend! Designed equally for uses in community engagement and school assemblies, an interactive performance is a way for audiences to engage with the music that they're listening to. I've included an example of an interactive performance below!
